MKSAP 16 on an iPad – a grand slam

I have subscribed to many versions of MKSAP in my career. While the content always impresses, the books were large and clumsy. The tests required mailing in a sheet of pencilled ovals. All so 1980s.

We on the Board of Regents of ACP encouraged and exhorted the IT folks to work with the education folks to develop a digital version that met the expectations of what such a program should achieve. They exceeded expectations.

Friday I was with a former President of the ACP and began touting the iPad version of MKSAP. He was skeptical. I demonstrated the key features and convinced him that he would use MKSAP more with the iPad version. Saturday evening he thanked me. He was amazed (as was I when I started using it) of the convenience of carrying around MKSAP and the questions on a tablet device. I have a mini-iPad and have fallen in love with this app.

With the iPad app, one can download each section (I have answered the questions for nephrology and infectious diseases and currently am working on cardiology). As soon as I answer a question, I receive immediate feedback with an extensive discussion of each answer and a rationale for why the correct answer is the best choice.

Currently flying from IM2013 (from San Francisco to Atlanta), I have periodically switched from the spy novel I am reading and done sets of 10 cardiology questions. Then back to intrigue.

Sometimes I leave the questions to spend more time reading the excellent text that MKSAP 16 contains.

If you are considering MKSAP, I highly recommend the digital version. If you have an iPad, I bet you will also love the app. This app has already markedly increased my use of MKSAP. It has removed the hassle of carrying around those clumsy books, and has provided me with instant gratification (or chagrin) as I answer each question. They really got this one right.

My colleague, the former President of ACP, urged me to try to spread the word about how great this app is.
